The phenomenon of Domestic Violence in the COVID-19 era
Violence generated from the family nucleus has become a problem that has increased in severity and complexity in Mexico since the beginning of the health emergency caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
As a result of confinement or the fact of staying at home during quarantine, there has been an alarming increase in cases of family violence. It is important to point out that this situation already existed before the pandemic, but now, with this phenomenon, violence rates have skyrocketed, not only against women but towards all members of the family regardless of age or gender.
According to INEGI itself (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) 12.2 million women suffer severe violence that ends in burns, hemorrhages, abortion and in the worst cases in death; even the largest number of rapes on record is committed in the family, perpetrated by stepparents, grandparents, uncles, father and even brothers.
According to the SEGOB (Ministry of the Interior) of the federal government, violence against women and minors within households increased by 120% since the declaration of emergency and confinement; 9 out of 10 people who are raped in the home are women, and 1 in 4 witnesses to other raped women; 66% is violence by physical violence and 22% by psycho-emotional violence.
After listening to these alarming figures, we would like to emphasize that such types of behavior called "family violence" are typified in our Penal Code of the state of Quintana Roo, this means that they have a penalty of custodial sentence and is It is very important that people who suffer this type of abuse in the home know it, and at the time can even identify what type of violence they may be experiencing.
There are several types of violence within the family such as psychological violence, physical violence, sexual violence, moral violence, and even patrimonial and economic violence. Next we will know what they consist of.
1.- Psychological violence.
The pattern of conduct resulting in acts or omissions results, the forms of expression of which may be prohibitions that cause the recipient to deteriorate, decrease or affect their self-esteem.
2.- Physical Violence.
It is all that intentional aggression in which some part of the body, some object or weapon is used to cause damage to the physical integrity of the other.
3.- Sexual Violence.
They are all those acts or omissions for an act of control, manipulation or domination of the couple that generates psycho-emotional and / or physical damage whose forms of expression can be, among others, induce the performance of unwanted sexual practices or that generate pain always and when this last practice is carried out without the consent of the couple.
4.- Moral Violence.
It is what is referred to as any act or omission aimed at vexation, derision, and mockery of the member of the family nucleus who feels affected in her human and moral quality.
5.- Property Violence.
It is any act or omission that affects the survival of the victim.
6.- Economic Violence.
It is the one that manifests itself through limitations aimed at controlling the income of its economic perceptions.
